The Lake District Pound

The Lake District Pound (LD£) is our region’s new local currency – designed to celebrate everything you love about this place, and help keep our region special.

We will be accepting the Lake District pound in our shops when it launches. £1, £5, £10 and £20 Lake District notes will be exchanged one for one with sterling, but can only be spent in participating businesses that are locally owned, trade locally and were either founded in, or unique to the area.

Lake District Pounds can be spent, respent, or swapped back to sterling at any time during their period of validity. If people buy the notes as souvenirs and do not spend them, proceeds will be split between charitable organisations Cumbria Community Foundation and the newly formed Lake District Foundation. Sounds to us like a good idea that is worth supporting.

If you pick up a LD£ Passport, you can collect stamps when you visit local businesses on the LD£ Passport Trail. There are loads of fun icons to collect, and every stamp is unique. If you are lucky enough to be visiting the Lakes this Summer then why not give it a go.
