Chocolates Free From Palm Oil
The negative affect that palm oil has on our environment has been all over the news for the last few years, with environmentalists arguing that the farming of oil from palm trees is extremely bad for the planet.
Palm oil production is said to have been responsible for about 8% of the world’s deforestation between 1990 and 2008 (source BBC) as large areas of forests are burned to clear the land so that people can grow oil palms – even if it’s illegal. Burning forests like this destroys the places where plants and wildlife live, meaning the area has less biodiversity. Species like orangutans, rhinos, elephants and tigers can be affected.
With this in mind we are trying to reduce the amount of palm oil used in our chocolates, but at the same time not affect flavour. For clarity we now have a ‘palm oil free chocolate‘ section on our website with over 150 products in.
