British Chocolatiers Setting Trends in 2021 | Friars

Throughout our growth and expansion here at Friars, we’re always focused on ensuring that the quality of our products (chocolates and sweets) is as good as it can be, that taste is the very top of it’s game and that our products are made using sustainable processes, to help us ensure the longevity of our planet.

Because let’s face it, no planet means no customers, and that’s bad for business! We’re passionate about ensuring that our operations are as eco-friendly as possible, that’s why we source low carbon ingredients and manufacture our products locally to reduce the need for transportation and fuel. We’ve even based an entire vegan Kakoa range on Oat Milk, a more sustainable plant free alternative to Almond milk that uses less water to produce and doesn’t require shipping to us via aircraft, reducing our carbon footprint.

In 2021 we’ve turned to our packaging and hope to set a new trend within the UK’s confectionery industry. How often do you walk down the street and see an empty sweet wrapper on the floor. How many times do you throw a sweet wrapper in the general waste at home? Simply put, packaging is a wasteful industry, and that’s why we’ve invested time and money into ensuring that our chocolate packaging is fully recyclable and biodegradable – this means you can enjoy your chocolates, guilt free!

To remain transparent in our mission to reduce our impact, and our customers impact to the environment, here’s our pledge to you:

We are delighted to be in a position to say that all our cartons are made from 100% Forest Steward Council (FSC) certified cardboard. In short this means the paper used comes from forests that meet high environmental standards. This includes fair treatment of the forestry workers and investment by the owning companies in the long term future of the forests.

More information about about the great work of the FSC can be found at;

Our Friars signature boxes are quite special taste wise, but now they are 100% recyclable and biodegradable as well. Both the FSC certified box and the tray the chocolates sit in are biodegradable and recyclable.

The ever popular chocolate tasters sit in a 100% recyclable and biodegradable tray which is then packed in a bag made from NatureFlex, which is an alternative to the traditional polypropylene bag and is made from wood pulp. If you want to read more about NatureFlex then visit

Historically we used plastic air pockets in our parcels, however, we have now swapped this for recyclable paper void fill so you won’t get any nasty plastic padding in any parcel that you receive from us. Just amazing chocolate!
