The history of the Anthon Berg brand began in 1884 when chocolate was becoming more and more popular. Anthon Berg, who was a Danish greengrocer at the time; had been making marzipan and decided to try his hand with cocoa beans as marzipan was already a coveted delicacy in Denmark at that time.
Anthon Berg bought a confectionery business with his son and they began producing filled dessert chocolates. Customers would wait in long queues to purchase the chocolates and Anthon Berg would hand out small pieces of chocolate with marzipan to the loyal chocolate fans. Generosity has been the foundation of the Anthon Berg brand from the very early days.
In 1898 the chocolate marzipan was put into production as an independent product and to this day, Anthon Berg is renowned for their luxury marzipan bars and liqueur chocolates and they were even awarded the title of "Purveyor to the Royal Danish Court" in 1957.
Anthon Berg products are now supplied internationally and are extremely popular the world over, from their rich chocolate coated marzipan discs to their bittersweet dark chocolate liqueurs and beyond. Discover Anthon Berg at friars.co.uk.
